OlyBet Poker has further cemented its status as the premier live poker hub of the Baltics with the successful conclusion of the first-ever OlyBet Showdown Tallinn.
The festival, held at the prestigious Olympic Park Casino, drew nearly 2,000 entries across a massive 43-event schedule, resulting in a total payout of €596,867.
A Career-Defining Performance
The festival’s crowning achievement belonged to Finnish player Andreas Backlund, who emerged from a field of 210 entries to capture the €1,100 NLH Tallinn Showdown Main Event title.
Backlund’s victory was a classic underdog story; entering the tournament with just under $15,000 in total live earnings, he navigated a shark-infested final table to secure a career-best payout of €37,148 following a heads-up deal.
Backlund’s dominance wasn’t limited to the Main Event. He also secured a title in the €350 NLH Progressive Bounty, earning an additional €1,667 (plus bounties).
Other standout performers included Krzysztof Budka, who remarkably filled his trophy cabinet with three titles, while Alger Pissarev, Vidar Assersen, and Marcis Zeltmatis each recorded dual victories during the series.
Heads-Up Dramatics and the Power of Aces
The final stages of the Main Event saw a tense battle between Backlund and countryman Kyösti Isberg. Despite Isberg holding the initial chip lead, the duo agreed to a deal guaranteeing €34,148 each, leaving the trophy and an additional €3,000 for the winner.
The definitive moment arrived when Backlund picked up pocket aces. In a climate where premium hands have recently struggled in major showdowns, Backlund’s aces held firm against Isberg’s ace-ten on a J-T-4 board. Left short-stacked, Isberg was eliminated shortly after, handing Backlund the biggest victory of his professional journey.
The success of the OlyBet Showdown Tallinn highlights the growing demand for world-class live poker festivals in Northern Europe as OlyBet continues to scale its event footprint.
