The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has announced plans to launch a formal consultation regarding a proposed AI Gaming Charter.
This initiative aims to establish a framework for the “Ethical and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence” within the global iGaming hub, as the technology becomes increasingly integrated into operator platforms and compliance tools.
Principles-Based Guidance for a New Era
The MGA stated that the AI Gaming Charter will serve as a “voluntary, principles-based guidance” system. It is designed to bridge the gap between existing legal structures, such as the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, and the specific operational needs of the gambling industry. The regulator noted:
“It is designed to complement existing legal and regulatory frameworks… while reflecting the specific operational context of the gaming industry.”
This move comes as AI use cases in iGaming accelerate, ranging from fraud detection and responsible gaming algorithms to personalized marketing and game design. The consultation will allow stakeholders to provide feedback on how the charter can best support innovation while maintaining the MGA’s high standards for player protection.
