BetBlocker And Yellow Scarf To Create Language-Specific Services For Eastern European Communities

BetBlocker, a dedicated platform for responsible gambling and preventing gambling addiction, has partnered with Yellow Scarf, also a fierce advocate for safer play and responsible gambling, in a bid to expand its services to Polish, Ukrainian, and Russian-speaking communities within the UK.

A noble initiative supported by one of the biggest responsible gambling platforms in the world, GambleAware, this partnership between BetBlocker and Yellow Scarf aims to deal with the language barriers that frequently prevent at-risk individuals from using gambling harm prevention tools.

This collaboration seeks to improve new language offerings among Eastern Europeans who live in the UK, considering that they make up a substantial portion of the immigrant communities within the United Kingdom.

Yellow Scarf is the perfect channel to tackle this issue, as this charity’s sole focus is providing support to groups from Eastern Europe, pointing out a dire need for services in native languages for this part of Europe.

As per research conducted by Yellow Scarf, more than 25% of individuals in these regions have difficulties with the English language in high-stress or unfamiliar situations.

Duncan Garvie, Founder and Trustee at BetBlocker, said that one of BetBlockers main priorities is “expanding the languages” that this platform supports, highlighting that the sole purpose of BetBlocker is to enable users a “smooth and easy set-up process”.

A significant priority for BetBlocker is expanding the languages that we can support. As a tech solution to a complex problem, ensuring that users have as smooth and easy a set-up process as possible is paramount to our success in minimizing gambling harms. If a user can’t get our app set up, we’ve failed.

Tomasz Jarecki, Head of Development at Yellow Scarf, commented on this collaboration and expressed that Yellow Scarf is honoured to support BetBlocker in its pursuit of “making their project more accessible” to wider communities.

It is a great honour for us to support BetBlocker in making their project more accessible and reaching wider communities – translation into a national language ensures that the more vulnerable people will be able to receive support that would otherwise miss them.

This move by BetBlocker further shows the advocate’s dedication to integrating multilingual expansions, with the most recent such venture being in September 2024, when the organization launched its dedicated Portuguese language software.
