This system is provided completely free of charge via NHS Wales. It is built specifically for individuals experiencing gambling related harms. The digital therapeutic course is titled Space from Gambling Harms. It serves as a core component of a redesigned, comprehensive All Wales Gambling Treatment Service that officially went live in April. This digital infrastructure is complemented by an active 24 hour national telephone helpline. It features streamlined, formal referral pathways to specialized clinical care for severe cases.
Under this new public health setup, individuals across Wales can access and interact with the specialized support program directly. They can use any smartphone, tablet, or personal computer. This removes the historical requirement of visiting a local general practitioner to secure an official medical referral. The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is tasked with direct operational management.
They run both the clinical gambling treatment services and the central helpline on behalf of NHS Wales. Independent public health research indicates that tens of thousands of citizens within Wales are directly or indirectly impacted by severe gambling related harms each consecutive year. The helpline provides confidential information, immediate crisis advice, and emotional support. Trained operators possess the authority to instantly route high risk callers into intensive, face to face specialist treatment units when clinically necessary.
Clinical Foundations and Platform Delivery
The structural framework of the Space from Gambling Harms platform is grounded firmly in evidence based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This clinical methodology is designed to assist individuals in systematically identifying thought patterns. They analyze and restructure damaging behaviors and emotional impulses. Participants also build sustainable, long term personal coping strategies. The course is deployed via the established SilverCloud digital platform. This infrastructure currently hosts digital wellbeing courses for anxiety, clinical stress, depression, and chronic sleep disorders for NHS Wales.
Adults aged 18 and older living in Wales can enroll in the gambling harm module via an online self referral portal. Once registered, every single participant is paired with an NHS trained clinical supporter. This professional monitors progress and reviews module inputs weekly. They also offer personalized guidance through the platform.
