The Swedish Gambling Inspectorate (Spelinspektionen), Sweden’s official gambling regulator, has received its 2025 regulatory framework which outlines key financial allocations and operational objectives.
More specifically, the Swedish gambling regulator has been granted a budget of $8.9 million (97.9 million SEK), with additional monthly disbursements of $741,982 (8.16 million SEK) throughout the year.
These financial resources are aimed at ensuring the Swedish Gambling Inspectorate has the neccessary resources to meet its potential objectives and uphold its upcoming regulatory mandate.
One of the key requirements summarized in the regulation letter refers to the need to report on the supervisory activities and effectiveness of the regulator.
This means that the Swedish gambling authority will detail the exact number of inspections conducted in different sub-markets and evaluate the impact of these efforts.
In addition, the regulator will also provide an overview of its new match-fixing prevention platform, and this also includes the number of suspicious activity reports that the regulator receives during the year.
The new framework will also include ongoing tasks to monitor underage gambling and develop a supervision system for both unlicensed and licensed gambling activities.
On top of this, the Swedish gambling authority is also obliged to deliver precise forecasts for the period between 2025 and 2028 on four different occasions, being tasked to outline assumptions, explain deviations from its plan, and identify potential uncertainties.
Some of the more specific assignments include a survey of gambling among youths which is scheduled to be completed by the 31st of January 2025, and furthermore the development of new strategies to bolster supervision and battle unregulated gambling and match-fixing, with this report being due by the 31st of March 2025.
