In its formal commercial disclosure for the month of April, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported that the state’s total gaming revenue reached an impressive US$ 595 million.
This performance represents a robust 6.49% year-on-year increase compared to the same period last year, demonstrating the ongoing economic health and player engagement across both land-based and digital betting channels.
Digital Casino Ecosystem Outpaces Retail Venues
Among the state’s traditional brick-and-mortar operations, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course emerged as the single highest corporate performer. The venue generated $109 million in total revenue, marking a sharp 11.58% annual spike.
A closer look at the retail slot machine segment reveals a stable performance, yielding $206.7 million for the month—a modest 1.76% expansion against the $203.1 million recorded in April 2025. This incremental growth was supported by an increased hardware footprint, with 24,856 retail slot machines active in the market compared to 24,363 during the prior-year period.
Conversely, land-based table games experienced a minor contraction, with monthly gross revenue closing at $78.7 million, representing a 2.36% dip from the $80.6 million recorded last year.
The primary catalyst for the state’s record-breaking month was the iGaming vertical. Online casino platforms generated a massive gross revenue of $245.8 million, reflecting an impressive 7.94% increase over last April’s $227.7 million. This sustained digital migration underscores the growing significance of alternative mobile channels within the state’s broader regulatory framework.
Sportsbook Taxable Revenue Jumps 38.6% Despite Lower Handle
The metrics for the sports wagering vertical revealed a fascinating divergence between overall player handle and true operator profitability. Pennsylvania’s total monthly sports betting handle fell 9.84% to $641.6 million, down from the $711.6 million accepted during the previous April.
However, despite this drop in total wagering volume, operators experienced a significant improvement in win margin and tax compliance efficiency. Pennsylvania‘s taxable sports betting revenue figure for April surged to $59 million, marking a colossal 38.6% increase year-over-year gaming revenue compared to the $42.5 million collected in April 2025.
The PGCB expects this revenue mixture to remain highly lucrative as operators continue to optimize their localized retention campaigns ahead of the summer sports calendar.
