In a unanimous decision, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has voted to renew the Category 1 horse track casino license for Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, the operator behind the state’s top-grossing property, Parx Casino.
The renewal ensures that the Bensalem-based facility will continue its operations through 2031, following a rigorous evaluation of its historical performance and community impact.
A Proven Economic Engine
The PGCB’s decision follows two major public hearings held in April 2025, one in Bucks County and another in Harrisburg, where regulators scrutinized the operator’s conduct. According to official data provided during the renewal process, Parx Casino has generated a staggering $10.2 billion in gross revenue since its debut in December 2006.
This revenue spans retail slots, table games, sports wagering, and its high-growth iGaming vertical.
More importantly for the state, the property has contributed $4.59 billion in tax revenue, assessments, and fees over its 20-year history. As a primary employer in the region, Parx currently provides jobs for over 2,300 people.
World-Class Gaming Infrastructure
Regulators determined that Greenwood Gaming had fulfilled all obligations under its previous license. The facility currently operates:
- 2,981 slot machines
- 155 traditional table games
- 12 hybrid table games
- A specialized on-site sportsbook
During the hearings, the board received testimony from local government officials, community groups, and the Pennsylvania State Police. The consensus highlighted the casino’s positive role in the local economy and its adherence to strict regulatory standards, solidifying its position as a cornerstone of the Commonwealth’s gaming industry.
