The world’s leading gaming hub has closed the Q1 of 2026 with a powerful display of economic resilience, where according to the latest data released by Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), gross gaming revenues (GGR) for March hit MOP22.61 billion (US$2.80 billion).
This represents a robust 15.0% increase compared to March 2025 and a sequential gain of 9.6% over February’s performance.
Q1 Momentum and Market Stability
These figures bring the total aggregate revenue for the first quarter (Q1) to MOP65.87 billion, a 14.3% rise year-on-year. The steady climb through January and February, culminating in a strong March finish, suggests that Macau’s post-pandemic recovery has transitioned into a phase of sustainable stability. Analysts note that the market is no longer just “rebounding” but is establishing a new, higher baseline for the 2026 fiscal year.
The Power of Premium Mass
A key driver behind this growth in Q1 2026 in Macau is the high-value “Premium Mass” segment. A recent survey by Citigroup observed that both the volume of players and the average wager per player in this category have improved significantly compared to last year. While the VIP junket era has faded, the “Premium Mass” player, who wagers large sums without the need for traditional middlemen, has become the new backbone of the industry.
“The latest figures give Macau a stronger starting point heading into the next quarter. March’s year-on-year gain was the steepest of the three monthly comparisons cited in the release,” the report stated, highlighting the city’s solid momentum as it enters the second quarter (Q2).
With the infrastructure for mass tourism improving and a clear upward trend in player spending, Macau remains well-positioned to meet or exceed government revenue targets for the remainder of the year.
