The final day of the League One season delivered more than just a 2-2 draw for Leyton Orient fans.
During the half-time interval of Orient’s clash against Burton Albion, supporter Georgia Wallis etched her name into club lore by successfully hitting the crossbar in BetWright’s Bangers N’ Cash Crossbar Challenge, taking home a massive £10,000 jackpot.
A Season of Near-Misses Concludes
The popular promotion had been running throughout the season at the BetWright Stadium. Starting with a £3,000 jackpot, the prize pool increased by £1,000 for every home fixture that concluded without a winner. Following a successful hit by Graham Pringle in January, the pot had reset and climbed steadily for months, reaching its five-figure peak just in time for the season finale.
Georgia Wallis, still reeling from the excitement, shared her experience:
“As soon as I hit the ball, I thought – yeah, that’s the one! I’m absolutely buzzing! It felt really good – I thought I was going to fall over, so not doing that is a win in itself! My dad entered himself to do it every week and was never successful, then when he finally got the email he said, ‘I’m not doing it – you’re doing it’, so I had to step up!”
Pressure Performance on the Big Stage
The challenge allows participants a single attempt to strike the woodwork from a designated distance. While consolation prizes are available via a card-pick system for those who miss, Georgia needed no such safety net.
Yarry Troshchey of BetWright praised the feat:
“We’ve had some unfortunate near-misses since Graham’s win earlier in the season, so it was fantastic to see Georgia finally step up and deliver on the final day of the campaign at the BetWright Stadium. To do so with the pressure of it being the last chance of the season makes it even more impressive, and it’s exactly the kind of moment the BetWright Bangers N’ Cash Crossbar Challenge is all about. We’re delighted for Georgia to take home the £10,000 prize and round off the season in style.”
