Leading digital sports entertainment provider DraftKings has officially expanded its wagering portfolio with the launch of DK Replay.
This innovative product introduces “historical betting markets,” allowing users to wager on the outcomes of past Major League Baseball (MLB) games through an animated, real-time interface. Approved by the Oregon Lottery, the product went live yesterday and is currently exclusive to the Oregon market as DraftKings evaluates further regulatory rollouts.
Gamifying Baseball History
DK Replay functions by presenting players with anonymized pitcher-versus-batter matchups derived from a massive dataset of hundreds of thousands of historical plate appearances. Each athlete is assigned a Bronze, Silver, or Gold rating based on their original performance metrics, such as ERA, strikeouts, and batting average.
Within a “pitch clock” window, bettors can place micro-wagers on whether the upcoming pitch will result in a strike, ball, or in-play action. Once the timer expires, the pitch is animated, and the historical result determines the payout. Corey Gottlieb, DraftKings’ Chief Product Officer, stated:
“With DK Replay, we’re able to offer an experience that will allow customers to enjoy their favorite sports no matter the time of year”.
The “Super App” Integration Strategy
The launch is a core component of DraftKings’ transition toward an all-in-one “Super App.” This integrated ecosystem aims to house sports betting, prediction markets, casino games, lottery, and horse racing under a single digital roof to maximize cross-vertical engagement.
While similar in concept to Florida’s historical motor racing games, DK Replay is classified strictly as sports betting in Oregon. This distinction is critical as the industry moves into a regulatory “gray area” where predetermined outcomes are revealed after wagers are placed, blurring the lines between sports simulation and casino-style gaming.
