The Board of Directors of the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) has officially announced the permanent appointment of Dan Keene to the role of Chief Executive Officer.
Keene, who has been steering the provincial body on an interim basis, will lead the organization through its final operational phase as Alberta prepares to launch its highly anticipated competitive online gambling market on July 13, 2026.
A Proven Track Record in Market Development
Keene has been a central architect in restructuring Western Canada’s iGaming landscape. His previous tenure includes serving as the Vice President of Gaming for the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) since July 2022. In that executive capacity, he managed a massive operational portfolio that included provincial gaming retail services, compliance oversight, electronic gaming supply chains, and technical product development across Alberta.
During his time at the AGLC, Keene co-led the structural development of Winner’s Edge, the province’s first unified, multi-property casino player loyalty program, while actively guiding the expansion of PlayAlberta.ca, which currently operates as the province’s singular regulated online gambling platform.
His foundational experience also includes managing casino asset selection teams for Alberta’s 30 commercial venues and 750 VLT locations, building upon a highly successful prior private-sector track record at Molson Breweries and Century Casinos Inc.
Engineering a Socially Responsible Framework
Alberta iGaming Corporation Board Chair Sanjeev Kad highlighted that Keene’s deep operational background is a vital asset to future-proof the province’s open market:
“Dan brings deep operational experience and a strong track record in gaming and market development. His leadership will be essential as the Alberta iGaming Corporation prepares for launch and delivers a regulated market built on social responsibility and player protection.”
Dan Keene’s localized expertise will be heavily relied upon as the AiGC coordinates with incoming international operators, B2B software vendors, and technical testing laboratories to ensure the upcoming open-market launch strikes the perfect balance between high-performance commercial turnover and strict consumer protection safeguards.
