Brightstar Lottery has been awarded a major long-term contract by Lotterywest to modernize lottery operations across Western Australia. Following a competitive procurement process, Brightstar secured a 19-year agreement, which includes a nine-year base term and options for extensions totaling ten additional years.
Technological Overhaul for a Digital Future
Under the agreement, Brightstar will replace existing competitor technology with its new central gaming system, supporting both draw-based games and instant tickets. The deployment includes 775 new retailer terminals, specifically the Retailer Pro S2 devices, and a suite of software solutions to streamline back-office operations.
Additionally, Brightstar will deliver new website and mobile applications to enhance Lotterywest’s digital presence.
Lotterywest CEO Colin Smith underscored the strategic importance of the upgrade. “The replacement of Lotterywest’s gaming system is part of our ongoing commitment to modernizing our operations to support players and retailers, ensuring ongoing returns to the Western Australia community,” Smith said. “This investment will provide us with a fit-for-purpose lottery gaming system allowing us to continue to evolve and innovate”.
Supporting Community and Responsible Growth
Brightstar has committed to the Western Australia Industry Participation Strategy, promising to support local businesses, create jobs, and offer university scholarships. Marco Tasso, COO International and Italy Operations at Brightstar, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.
“Brightstar is excited to support Lotterywest in its next chapter by introducing our premier technology and comprehensive product solutions, to help shape the future of lottery in Western Australia and support responsible growth,” Tasso commented.
Brightstar currently provides technology to 26 of 46 US lottery jurisdictions and supports eight of the world’s ten largest lotteries.
