International lottery technology giant Brightstar Lottery PLC has announced a major contract extension in Eastern Europe. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Brightstar Global Solutions Corporation, has signed a comprehensive nine-year agreement with TIPOS, the state-owned national lottery of Slovakia, ensuring the company will remain the exclusive provider of core lottery technology, retail terminals, and managed support services until 2032.
Converting Offline Sales into Online Channels
The historical partnership between the two organizations spans over three decades. Under the parameters of their previous foundational contract signed in 2019, Brightstar successfully designed and deployed Slovakia’s centralized lottery operating system, alongside next-generation land-based retailer terminal networks.
The newly finalized extension introduces a significant upgrade to TIPOS’ distribution infrastructure: Brightstar will supply up to 2,500 advanced mobile lottery terminals. These handheld digital devices are engineered to completely transform how instant games are managed, shifting traditional offline scratchcard sales into online channels at the individual ticket level, while expanding the lottery’s footprint into new, non-traditional retail locations.
Funding Slovakian Social Infrastructure
The long-term commercial alliance remains a key driver of public funding within the Slovak Republic. Štefan Vyletel, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of TIPOS, praised the technical execution of the project:
“Brightstar continues to deliver important services and innovative solutions to help us grow lottery in Slovakia. The success of our partnership funds a variety of good causes in Slovakia, including education and sports, and we are pleased to extend our agreement.”
Marco Tasso, Brightstar Chief Operating Officer International and Italy Operations, reiterated the firm’s long-term commitment to the region:
“We are honored that TIPOS has entrusted us to serve Slovakia’s lottery for three decades. The handheld terminals we are deploying will enable TIPOS to convert offline instant ticket sales activities to online sales at the individual ticket level, while expanding the number of points of sale locations that players can purchase draw-based lottery games. We remain firmly committed to providing TIPOS and its players with exciting and innovative lottery solutions to help drive funding for good causes in Slovakia.”
