In a landmark collaboration aimed at safeguarding the future of Brazilian athletics, the Ministry of Sport has officially launched a specialized educational platform designed to combat match-fixing.
Developed in conjunction with the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) and supported by technical data from Sportradar, the initiative serves as a cornerstone of the National Policy for the Prevention and Confrontation of Sports Match-Fixing.
Knowledge as a Defensive Shield
The platform focuses on proactive prevention, providing professional athletes with the tools to identify and report the early signs of corruption. By shifting the focus from purely punitive measures to foundational education, the Secretariat for Sports Betting aims to ensure the integrity of the “sporting spectacle” remains untainted by organized crime.
Giovanni Rocco, National Secretary of Sports Betting from the Brazilian Ministry of Sport, emphasized the strategic weight of the project:
“The construction of the platform… addresses a crucial point in the execution of the National Policy, which is to provide knowledge to athletes. It is strategic so that athletes fulfill their role of playing and making the spectacle happen. It’s about making athletes understand that they are committing a crime if they manipulate results. We are issuing this warning because punishment will follow.”
Industry Alignment on Fair Play
For the regulated iGaming sector, the platform represents a vital layer of security. Licensed operators rely on the unpredictability of sports to maintain viable business models; match-fixing, therefore, represents a direct threat to both public trust and corporate stability.
Plinio Lemos Jorge, President of ANJL, highlighted this synergy:
“Match-fixing is the opposite of what professional and legalised betting companies want. These are large companies with businesses in Brazil and abroad, many of them with shares traded on stock exchanges in various parts of the world. Therefore, transparency and fair play are fundamental to the sector.”
By formalizing this partnership between the state and the private sector, Brazil is setting a new regional standard for sports integrity as it moves toward becoming one of the world’s largest regulated betting markets.
