In a major step toward making gambling harm prevention accessible to more people worldwide, the award-winning charity BetBlocker has officially announced the launch of its support tool in the Turkish language.
This expansion brings the charity’s free, anonymous blocking service to a potential audience of 90 million native speakers across the globe.
Addressing a Critical Need
The decision to prioritize Turkish language support comes at a vital time. Data from Yesilay, a primary Turkish support service, indicates that requests for assistance regarding gambling are now outpacing those for alcohol, tobacco, or substance abuse.
Furthermore, there is a noted trend of high uptake and potential harm among younger populations within these communities.
BetBlocker has seen a massive surge in demand over the last year, with more than 300,000 unique users activating the tool in 2025 alone.
The charity credits this growth to its commitment to multi-language accessibility, meeting users in the language they are most comfortable using.
Duncan Garvie, Founder and Trustee for BetBlocker:
“BetBlocker is genuinely excited to roll out our second language expansion of 2026. Alongside Turkey itself, there are substantial Turkish-speaking communities across Europe, the Middle East, and North America. It is our hope that this evolution will ensure a deeper level of support is available more widely across the Turkish diaspora.”
A Community-Driven Effort
The translation of the app was made possible through the volunteer efforts of Fatmatuz Zehra Pehlivan, a Clinical Psychologist and researcher associated with Green Crescent.
Garvie added:
Every Turkish language user we support owes her their thanks for the donation of her time and expertise. As with many of the communities BetBlocker now supports, we would not be able to reach so many people without the kindness and generosity of field experts like Fatmatuz.
