The Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) has announced that the state’s sports betting market will officially debut on December 1, 2025, making the state of Missouri one of the latest to embrace this form of gambling.
This means that the regulatory body of Missouri is now accepting licensing applications from operators, thus marking a major step forward in the gambling landscape of the state.
According to the MGC, Missouri’s new sports wagering legislation will take effect on August 30, 2025, and this interim period will allow the regulator to review applications and issue temporary licences ahead of the official December launch.
From here, land-based sports betting licences will come with a $250,000 fee, whereas online licences will cost $500,000.
Moreover, all 13 retail casino locations in Missouri are eligible to apply, and this also includes the state’s six professional sports teams.
In addition, the regulator will award two standalone licences to operators that are currently not affiliated with any of Missouri’s casinos or sports franchises, and the MGC will announce the two recipients on August 15.
Lastly, the Missouri Gaming Commission revealed that the tax rate for all sports betting activities will be set at 10%, which in turn is expected to create a new revenue stream for the state.
Speaking of revenue, it is good to mention that the regulated retail market of Missouri generated $169.1 million GGR (gross gaming revenue) in April 2025 alone, marking a 9% year-on-year increase.
The regulation of the sports betting scene in Missouri has been long overdue, as lawmakers in the state have been trying to launch the market since 2022.
Now, after 3 years and several delays, the state finalized its legal framework, a move that will see the state of Missouri joining a growing list of US states that have made sports betting in the country legal.
