
The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, has posted a comprehensive report regarding gambling revenue in Denmark for 2024, revealing a substantial increase.
Namely, gambling revenue in Denmark for 2024 reached DKK7.27 billion (£811.2 million/€974.1 million/$1.02 billion), an increase of 6.9% when compared to 2023, and surpassing the DKK6.80 billion figure during the previous year.
The report, which was published on February 13, shows that the main source of revenue in the country came from online casino gaming, reaching DKK3.53 billion in 2024, an increase of 14.7% from the DKK3.53 billion revenue posted in 2023.
Out of this number, online slots contributed 78.2% of the total gambling revenue in 2024, with Blackjack coming in second with 6.7% of the total revenue. The remainder of the revenue was split between bingo, poker, roulette, and other casino games.
When it comes to sports betting, the sector ranked second in terms of total gambling revenue, recording DKK2.21 billion or a 1.2% year-on-year increase. Of this number, mobile gaming accounted for 70.4%; desktop betting is responsible for 15.1%; land-based ranks third with 14.5% of the total gaming revenue.
From here, land-based also noted a slight increase of 1.7% when compared to 2023, which is DKK368 million, while physical slot machines noted a decline of 1.2%, which is DKK1.16 billion year-on-year.
Looking at December 2024, the report by the Spillemyndigheden reveals total gambling revenue in Denmark reached DKK670 million, which is 0.8% more when compared to the total gaming revenue in 2023.
Consequently, online casino gaming is the most profitable sector with DKK347 million, or a 13.6% year-on-year increase, land-based casino gaming grew by 2.2% to DKK35 million. The other two sectors, sports betting and slot machine gaming, both underperformed, dropping in total gaming revenue by 15.7% to DKK191 million for the former, and 1.7% to DK98 million for the latter.
