The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) has confirmed its operational schedule for the upcoming holiday season, announcing a complete closure between Christmas and the New Year. Services will be suspended starting from December 24, with normal operations resuming after January 1.
This temporary suspension applies to the regulator’s administrative functions as well as critical support services, including the “StopSpillet” gambling helpline and the national self-exclusion register, ROFUS.
The authority has clarified that any enquiries submitted during this period will not receive a response until the offices reopen in the New Year. Consequently, operators and consumers are advised to plan any necessary regulatory correspondence or support requests well in advance.
The closure comes at the end of a busy regulatory year for Denmark. Recent data released by the authority highlighted a robust market performance, with total gambling revenue reaching DKK 714 million ($111.1 million) in August 2025, a 25.1% year-on-year increase.
The regulator has also been active in policy enforcement, notably revising marketing guidance in July to strengthen protections for minors and ensure transparency in advertising.
With no interim arrangements announced, industry stakeholders should prepare for a pause in regulatory communication during the festive break.
Danish Gambling Authority (Official Announcement):
“The closure applies to the regulator itself, as well as the StopSpillet gambling helpline and the national self-exclusion register, ROFUS. Enquiries submitted during the closure period will not receive a response until operations resume after the New Year.”
