The Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s gambling regulator, has officially banned Satoshi Gaming Group NV from operating in the country after discovering the company had been offering gambling services without the necessary Swedish license.
The decision comes after an investigation revealed that the crypto casino and sportsbook operator was illegally targeting Swedish players without a proper license.
The enforcement action marks yet another step in the ongoing efforts of the Spelinspektionen to protect the integrity of Sweden’s regulated gambling market from illegal operators.
The Spelinspektionen has had a busy start to 2025, with the regulator consistently dealing with increasing concerns about unlicensed operators exploiting legal loopholes to gain access and operate within the Swedish iGaming market.
In February, the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) urged the Ministry of Finance to amend the current Gambling Act, citing a specific legal loophole that enables offshore gambling companies to reach Swedish consumers despite lacking official licensing.
Their appeal highlighted growing concerns within the licensed gaming sector about the unfair advantage enjoyed by unregulated, i.e. illegal competitors.
This comes after a March report from AB Trav och Galopp (ATG) revealed that unlicensed gambling was still on the rise in the country, something that calls for urgent government intervention to reinforce market protections and strengthen enforcement capabilities.
To respond to these growing concerns, the Spelinspektionen released an extensive report in April that outlines the scale and accessibility of Sweden’s black-market gambling sector.
More specifically, the report proposed concrete steps to close existing loopholes, particularly the one identified by BOS, and pledged to increase its oversight to ensure a safer and more controlled gambling environment.
By removing Satoshi Gaming Group NV from Sweden, the Spelinspektionen highlights its commitment to tackling illegal operators and maintaining a fair, transparent, and regulated gambling market for its players.
