The Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s Gambling Auhtority, has banned GG.bet and its parent company ASG 360 from Sweden for offering illegal gambling services.

More specifically, the Spelinspektionen conducted a thorough investigation, which found that GG.bet illegally targeted players from Sweden, despite the operator not holding a Swedish gambling license.

The report, published on the 13th of March, concluded that the Cyprus-based ASG 360 purposely targeted Swedish players and offered them gambling services with its Curacao license, which is licensed to its parent company, River Entertainment BV.

As per the details of the investigation, players from Sweden were allowed to register, play, and deposit at GG.bet without any safeguards or geoblocking mechanisms.

Moreover, the Spelinspektionen revealed that GG.bet even offers Swedish currency as a gambling option, plus the use of Swedish-speaking affiliate platforms for the purpose of promoting its website.

Though considered a breach of the gambling law in Sweden, there is still a loophole that doesn’t impose penalties on unlicensed operators for using foreign currency such as Euros and targeting players in English.

The Swedish authority also said that ASG 360 is responsible for creating mirror websites by using a variation of its brand, GG.bet, with the regulator not being able to say exactly how many of these websites were active during the investigation.

The decision of the Spelinspektionen is active effective immediately:

We consider that, in the interests of consumer protection and to guarantee gaming safety, it is important the decision is complied with immediately. The decision shall, therefore, apply immediately.

What is particularly concerning is that GG.bet is one of the most popular illegal gambling websites in Sweden, with ATG placing GG.bet in fifth place as the most popular unlicensed casino in the country, attracting a total of 76,124 visitors in just three months.

From here, the operator who attracted the most customers in Sweden is Luckyjungle.com, who attracted 147,284 visitors in Q4, despite the fact that it entered the Swedish market in Q3 2023.
