Sands China has reinforced its long-standing commitment to social responsibility in the iGaming and hospitality sectors with the official inauguration of the Sands Responsible Gaming Academy at The Londoner Macau.

This launch was accompanied by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Macau (UM), formalizing a strategic partnership designed to deepen the collaboration between industry operations and academic research in promoting a sustainable gaming culture.

The establishment of the academy builds upon two decades of operation in Macau, during which Sands China has consistently prioritized responsible gaming infrastructure.

Since 2007, the company has maintained a comprehensive platform to support safe play.

The new Academy, one of eight specialist units under the broader Sands China Academy, aims to refine the structure for training, awareness, and best practices for both employees and guests.

A centerpiece of this initiative is the RG360 Macau Responsible Gaming Specialist Ambassador Course, developed in a unique partnership with UM’s Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming.

This program blends academic theory with practical application, specifically tailored to Macau’s distinct cultural environment.

It equips participants with advanced skills to identify risk scenarios, apply interventions, and handle complex cases with cross-cultural sensitivity.

Candidates for this specialized program must first complete foundational training, eventually receiving certificates issued jointly with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

The collaboration aligns with the Macao SAR government’s policy strategy to heighten public consciousness regarding responsible gaming.

By combining Sands China’s industry experience with the academic resources of the University of Macau, the initiative aims to upgrade professional competencies and explore new technological solutions for the ecosystem.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China, emphasized that the collaboration serves the dual purpose of fostering academic knowledge and practical abilities, contributing to Macau’s long-term development as a premier leisure destination.

Professor Jun Yu, Dean of UM’s Faculty of Business Administration:

The new academy marked a transformative milestone in advancing the standard of the industry through education and professional training. The plan is to capitalize on academic resources with Sands China’s industry experience to deepen talent development, upgrade professional competencies, and explore new technological solutions for the sustainable development of Macau’s responsible gaming ecosystem.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China:

The new academy and this collaboration with UM serve the dual purpose of fostering both academic knowledge and practical abilities among professionals. Sands China is committed to helping raise standards across the industry by way of cross-sector collaboration, nurturing local talent, and contributing toward the long-term development of Macao as a tourist and leisure destination.
