Leading daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator PrizePicks has announced a significant expansion of its US footprint, securing new operating licenses in Maine and Puerto Rico.
The approval in Puerto Rico is a landmark achievement, making PrizePicks the first and only DFS operator to be granted a gaming license in the territory, further cementing its position as a dominant force in the industry.
The expansion will introduce the company’s popular “Arena” product to these new markets. Arena is a peer-to-peer, ‘pick’em’ style fantasy game where users compete by making predictions on the statistical performance of two or more athletes.
Following the license approval, the game is now available to players in Maine, with a launch in Puerto Rico anticipated in the coming months. This move will bring the total number of jurisdictions where PrizePicks operates its fantasy sports games to 47.
Adam Packer, SVP of Legal and Compliance at PrizePicks, expressed confidence in the expansion.
We’ve seen tremendous engagement with Arena across the country, and we’re confident that momentum will carry into these new jurisdictions.
The company’s growth comes amid its strong commitment to consumer protection, having become the first fantasy sports operator to receive certification from the Internet Compliance Assessment Program (ICAP) for its responsible gaming standards.
Despite its success, PrizePicks has previously faced scrutiny within the industry, with some arguing that its ‘pick’em’ games share more similarities with proposition betting than traditional DFS.
This expansion is part of a broader growth strategy for the Atlanta-based company, which last year announced plans to significantly expand its headquarters, a move projected to create 1,000 new local jobs over the next seven years.
PrizePicks is a leading skill-based fantasy sports operator and the largest daily fantasy sports (DFS) platform in North America. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the company has distinguished itself with an innovative and accessible approach to fantasy sports.
Its core product features ‘pick’em’ style games, where users predict the statistical performance of individual athletes (e.g., more or less than a projected point total) rather than building complex fantasy lineups.
The company’s mission is to provide a fast, simple, and engaging way for sports fans to enhance their viewing experience. PrizePicks operates across a vast number of North American jurisdictions, offering a wide variety of sports, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, and more.
As a leader in consumer protection, PrizePicks was the first DFS operator to receive certification from the Internet Compliance Assessment Program (ICAP) for its commitment to responsible gaming practices.
