The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has announced impressive financial results for the first half of the year, with the nation’s total gross gaming revenue (GGR) reaching PHP 214.75 billion ($3.74 billion).
This figure represents a substantial 26% year-on-year increase, signaling robust growth and a strong recovery for the Southeast Asian gaming hub.
A detailed breakdown of the revenue sources reveals the overwhelming dominance of the electronic games sector. This segment, which includes e-games, e-bingo, and bingo grantees, generated PHP 114.83 billion, accounting for a commanding 53.5% of the total GGR. Licensed casinos followed, contributing PHP 93.36 billion, or 43.5% of the total.
The remaining 3.1% came from PAGCOR’s own operated casinos, which generated PHP 6.56 billion in revenue.
Alongside the strong financial report, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation Chairman Alejandro H. Tengco emphasized the regulator’s commitment to balancing industry growth with social responsibility:
PAGCOR recognises the earning potential of the e-games sector, but as the country’s gaming regulator, our foremost responsibility is to ensure that growth comes with accountability .Our role goes beyond revenue generation; we are committed to always strike a balance between enabling industry expansion and ensuring it aligns with responsible gaming standards.
In line with this commitment, PAGCOR also confirmed it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ad Standards Council (ASC) to significantly bolster the monitoring of gambling advertisements in the country.
This new agreement has already resulted in takedown orders being placed against non-compliant ads appearing in primetime television slots and public spaces.
Tengco added:
These efforts are part of our broader mission to ensure that online gambling is not only well-regulated but also aligned with public interest.
The regulator also recently provided PHP 30 million in relief aid following severe monsoon floods in Manila, reinforcing its nation-building mandate.
