
The highly anticipated Season 2 of the PartyPoker Tour has officially dropped anchor at Genting Casino Sheffield, kicking off Day 1and a week of high-stakes action and community events. The festival opened with Day 1A of the £40,000 GTD Mini Main Event, setting a strong pace for the series.
Paul “Cookie Jar” Carr Leads the Pack
The opening flight of the Mini Main Event attracted 99 entries, but the field was quickly whittled down. By the end of the session, only 15 players managed to bag chips for Day 2.
Leading the survivors is Irish poker standout and 2025 Irish Poker Tour Leaderboard winner, Paul “Cookie Jar” Carr. Carr finished the day as the runaway chip leader with a massive stack of 1.1 million chips. He is trailed by Lynne Beaumont (406,000 chips) and Jack Andrew (337,000 chips).
Another notable name advancing to Day 2 is Deniz Orhan, the PartyPoker Tour Manchester Main Event winner, who secured a healthy stack of 257,000.
Mystery Prize Draw Success
Tuesday evening also saw the NLH Mystery Prize Draw, a unique £2,000 added-prize tournament that drew 119 entriesfor a total prize pool of £5,950.
Daniel Van Geete claimed the top spot, taking home the trophy and £1,440 in prize money. The event was bolstered by significant added value, with the top three mystery prizes awarded as follows:
- Curtis Harrison: £1,000 High Roller Ticket
- Nathan Ward: £500 Main Event Ticket
- Gurdab Singh: £150 Mini Main Event Ticket
PartyPoker Ambassador Jaime Staples and Team Member Barry Carter were among the field, with Carter securing a cash finish.
Wednesday Schedule and Off-Felt Activities
Action resumes on Wednesday, January 28th, with a packed schedule. The Mini Main Event continues with Day 1B at 2:00 PM, followed by a Day 1C Turbo flight at 8:00 PM. For mixed-game enthusiasts, the PLO Masters Big O kicks off at 6:00 PM with a £150 buy-in.
Beyond the tables, the festival is hosting several “Off the Felt” activities. Football fans can join the Football Prediction Tournament at 8:00 PM for the UEFA Champions League clash between PSG and Newcastle United. Additionally, players in the Mini Main Event can participate in the “Spin the Wheel” promotion, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the loyalty card program.
