The Spillemyndigheden, the official gambling regulator in Denmark, has revealed that online gambling revenue in the country is up by 7.8% year-on-year in November 2024, highlighting a double-digit growth from online casino gaming alone.
The revenue from online gambling for November 2024 reached a whopping £74.1 million/€87.6 million/$90.7 million, which is 6% more than October 2024, or more than the DKK608 million during October of the previous year.
From here, the positive trend continues as online casino gaming once again generated the biggest revenue income, totalling a hefty DKK295 million, which is more than 3.9% in October 2024, and a 17.9% year-on-year increase.
With 77.4%, online slots are responsible for the majority of the revenue from online casino gaming in November, with blackjack contributing 6.7%, roulette 6.6%, bingo 3.1%, and the rest of the casino games contributing 2.7% to the total revenue.
Though at a much lower pace when compared to online casino gaming, other segments also reported an increase in revenue.
More specifically, sports betting is the second-highest contributor in terms of revenue, responsible for generating DKK232 million for November 2024, which is 0.3% more than November 2023.
Out of the total gaming revenue from sports betting, 65.4% came from mobile gaming, and 14.7% derived from desktop betting, with the rest 19.9% coming from physical betting establishments across Denmark.
When it comes to the rest of the contributors, land-based slot machines generated DKK95 million to the total amount, which is a 1.9% increase when compared to November 2023. Of this number, 79.3% is from gaming slot machines and 20.7% from machines in restaurants.
Revenue from land-based casino revenue during November 2024 reached DKK31 million, which is a small year-on-year increase of 0.8%.
Finally, the Spillemyndigheden also published a report regarding responsible gambling in the country, with a special focus on the national self-exclusion scheme ROFUS.
Namely, by December 2024, 54,704 Danish players have registered with ROFUS. Out of this number, 77.8% are males, 22.3% are female registrants, and out of all registered users, 65.9% have decided to permanently exclude from gambling.
Additionally, StopSpillet, a dedicated service that provides guidance and advice to players who are at risk and are worried about their gambling habits, took a total of 39 calls during the month of November alone.
