The New York State Gaming Commission has reported robust financial figures for December, with online sports betting revenue rising by over 70% compared to the same period the previous year. While the market cooled slightly from a record-breaking November, the data underscores the state’s continued dominance in the US sports betting landscape.

Operators in the Empire State generated a total of US$259.7 million in revenue for the month. Although this represents a 7.4% decline from the all-time high of $280.6 million recorded in November, it is a significant 72.7% increase over the $150.4 million generated in December 2024. This year-on-year growth suggests that the market has not yet reached its ceiling, even as it matures.

Handle and Betting Volume

The total amount wagered, or handle, reached $2.38 billion in December. This marks a 4.4% increase from the $2.28 billion wagered in December of the prior year. However, betting activity slowed compared to the immediate preceding months; the figure was down 8.6% from November’s $2.6 billion, and remains below the state record of $2.64 billion set in October.

FanDuel Retains Market Leadership

FanDuel continues to hold the top spot among operators in New York, outperforming competitors in both volume and gross revenue. The Flutter Entertainment brand accepted $853.6 million in bets during December, translating to $120.1 million in revenue.

This performance places FanDuel comfortably ahead of rivals like DraftKings and Caesars Sportsbook, solidifying its status as the primary driver of the state’s tax revenue from sports wagering.

As New York enters 2026, the data indicates a stable yet high-growth environment, where seasonal fluctuations in the sports calendar affect month-to-month handle, but the underlying year-on-year trend remains overwhelmingly positive.
