Macau concessionaire MGM has successfully concluded the second edition of its collaborative responsible gaming educational program in partnership with the City University of Macau (CityU).
This joint initiative brought together industry expertise and academic innovation to enhance financial literacy and promote responsible gaming awareness among the region’s next generation of professionals. By pooling resources, the two institutions aimed to cultivate healthy financial habits while equipping students with practical knowledge regarding the principles of sustainable gaming.
The Ambassador Program
A cornerstone of the collaboration was the “Responsible Gaming Campus Ambassador Program,” which utilized a “training plus practice” instructional model. The program engaged over thirty students from diverse academic backgrounds, including tourism management, hospitality, and social work.
Under the guidance of program leadership, including Tina Wong, Director of Responsible Gaming at MGM, and Pak Kin Pong from the Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home, students explored the evolution of Macau’s gaming industry. The curriculum emphasized how responsible gaming frameworks contribute to industry stability and community welfare, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the sector’s social obligations.
Sparking Innovation Through Competition
Complementing the ambassador training was the inaugural “Healthy Financial Management Promotion Design Competition.” This segment invited students from across the university to submit creative works communicating financial wellness concepts. Entrants utilized various formats, ranging from digital media to community education initiatives. The competition generated significant interest, with online showcases of the entries attracting over 110,000 viewers, illustrating the strong resonance of these messages within the campus community.
Bridging Industry and Academia
The partnership highlights the value of multi-sector collaboration. By bringing together gaming operators, educational institutions, and community organizations, the initiative prepares future professionals with hands-on experience in addressing industry challenges. The program reflects a broader movement in Macau to embed responsible gaming values into society, planting the seeds for long-term cultural shifts toward sustainability and financial health across the gaming hub.
Tina Wong, Director of Responsible Gaming at MGM:
“The second-year program has allowed students to apply healthy financial ideas to the campus and community through innovative paths. Collaborative structures across government, business enterprises, educational institutions, and civil organizations provide a sound foundation for Macau’s sustainable future development.”
Ip Kuai Peng, Vice Rector of City University of Macau:
“Both programs, organized around ‘theory plus practice’ and ‘competition plus innovation’ models, have so far managed to effectively stimulate student creativity while also solidifying the students’ sense of greater social responsibility. We are optimistic that those award-winning projects will continue to grow in influence, providing fresh energy toward sustainable development in Macau.”
