Martha Otton, the inaugural chief executive officer of iGaming Ontario, has announced her decision to step down as the head of Canada’s biggest gaming authority after almost your years at the helm.
As per Otton’s statement, the leaving CEO will retire from her current position on 31st December 2024.
Martha Otton was appointed with the specific purpose of ushering in the new era of iGaming in the Canadian province, which perfectly aligned with the government’s idea to introduce a competitive and regulated iGaming market, something that she successfully managed to achieve.
Ms. Otton already had an extensive career in the gaming sector, having previously served as the Chief Strategy Officer at the AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario), having the responsibility to create and oversee the strategic plan of the agency.
In addition, Otton was also responsible and played a key role in implementing the expanded mandate of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario over cannabis and horse racing, an issue that imposed serious challenges to the previous echelon at the AGCO.
Yet, Otton has also extensive experience in the legal sector, an area where she has tremendous expertise and something that allowed her to successfully manage volatile industries such as alcohol, cannabis, gaming, and horse racing sectors.
Prior to her tenure at the AGCO, Martha Otton served as the Director General at Legal Aid Ontario and has occupied a long list of positions at the Ministry of the Attorney General occupying esteemed roles such as Acting Assistant Deputy Attorney General of the Agency Relations Division, as well as Director Corporate Policy and Agency Relations.

With the announcement of Otton’s retirement, the Board of Directors at iGaming Ontario has already started a process to find and appoint the new Executive Director of Canada’s biggest iGaming market.
