Pam Bergin is stepping down from the role as CEO of the Gambling Awareness Trust after a successful tenure which saw the responsible gambling organization help thousands of people during her era.

The now-former CEO has been at the helm of the Ireland-based charity since October 2019, and during that time, the Gambling Awareness Trust grew into a leading charity that supported thousands of people with gambling addiction via a range of services.

Prior to serving as the CEO of the Gambling Awareness Trust, Bergin spent much of her time in the nonprofit sector, making her the perfect candidate to lead the charity. This includes undertaking roles as a Development Worker at the Laois County Childcare Committee, and Manager of The Portlaoise Family Resource Centre.

*Interesting fact: Brand Ambassador at Gambling Awareness Trust, Oisín McConville, recently appeared on Huddle and discussed his own battle with gambling addiction.

Pam Bergin announced her departure from the Gambling Awareness Trust on LinkedIn, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead such a noble cause and highlighting the “fantastic” journey which saw her battling a crucial issue such as gambling addiction in an era that saw problem gambling “totally overlooked”.

After five thoroughly enjoyable years, I will be leaving the Gambling Awareness Trust in a few weeks’ time. It’s been a fantastic experience. I still remember the excitement & trepidation I felt as I embarked on the role of CEO in 2019 tasked with addressing an area that had been totally overlooked in our society for so long. There’s been highs & lows & lots of learning! All invaluable insights along the way that I will remain grateful for.

Moreover, Bergin continued by saying that one of the most significant aspects of her job was the unique opportunity to meet people who battle gambling addiction, as well as individuals in recovery and family members, something that gave her a unique perspective on problem gambling.

I’ve met some of the most amazing people, those in active gambling addiction, those in recovery, and family members who were kind enough to share their experiences with me in an effort to help others. So many people who genuinely care & are eager to provide support and services across the country collaborated with me to make incredible things happen. I’m truly grateful to have worked with you all.  I’m leaving with the knowledge that thousands of people have been supported through the wide range of services we established, all of whom continue to respond to the growing need in our communities with the highest standards of care. That’s a good feeling.

The Gambling Awareness Trust was established in 2019 in Dublin, Ireland, making it the first official organization in the country of its kind. Soon after, the Government in Dublin introduced the Gambling Regulation Bill in 2022, only to officially approve it two years later, in 2024.
