The prominent British charity GambleAware has launched a new mobile app, the GambleAware Support Tool, designed to provide free and anonymous assistance to individuals seeking to reduce or stop their gambling activities.

The release coincides with new survey data revealing a significant demand for such resources, particularly among younger demographics.

The data indicates that 29% of gamblers in Great Britain aged 18 to 24 have a desire to cut down or quit, a figure nearly double the national average of 15%.

The new app directly addresses this need by offering self-guided support, a method preferred by the vast majority of those looking to change their habits. A 2023 study by the charity found that while 4.5 million adults in Great Britain want to modify their gambling, 93% of them favor informal tools over formal treatment services.

The GambleAware Support Tool is currently the only app in Great Britain that integrates the principles of the Lower Risk Gambling Guidelines (LRGG).

These internationally recognized standards provide users with personalized advice, helping them track their habits and set goals based on recommendations such as spending no more than 1% of income on gambling and limiting participation to four days and two gambling types per month.

In addition to these core features, the app provides access to educational content, podcasts, and, when required, can direct users to more formal support options through GambleAware’s service finder.

This launch is a key part of GambleAware’s broader strategy to enhance the visibility of support for gambling harm. It follows the charity’s recent public call for the National Lottery to improve its signposting to help services, a move supported by 74% of respondents in a recent survey.

The app represents a tangible new resource in GambleAware’s ongoing campaign for greater consistency in responsible gambling standards across all sectors of the industry.
