GambleAware Appoints Anna Hargrave as Transition CEO Ahead of Managed Closure

As the charity GambleAware moves into the final six months of its operations before its managed closure, it has announced a key leadership change to guide its transition. Zoe Osmond, who has served as the organization’s CEO for four and a half years, will be stepping down at the end of September.

She will be succeeded by Anna Hargrave, who has been appointed to the newly created role of Transition CEO.

Hargrave is a familiar and respected figure within the organization, having held senior positions at GambleAware since November 2021, most recently as Deputy CEO.

During her tenure, she has been instrumental in many of the charity’s key commissioning decisions, with a strong focus on embedding a public health approach into its strategic initiatives.

One of her most significant achievements was overseeing the re-commissioning of the National Gambling Support Network. Before her time at the charity, Hargrave built a distinguished career in various senior roles across the NHS.

In her new capacity, Hargrave will be responsible for the day-to-day management of GambleAware while also focusing on completing the charity’s “legacy ambitions.”

A critical part of her role will be to manage the handover of responsibilities and insights as the new statutory system for preventing gambling harms takes shape.

Anna Hargrave, the incoming GambleAware Transition CEO, commented:

“I look forward to continuing to work with the new commissioners as they get to grips with their new responsibilities within the statutory system and will work with them to ensure their efforts build upon the current system’s achievements and insights to ensure learnings are carried forward.”

Zoe Osmond, the outgoing CEO, said:

“Few charities can truly say they’ve delivered on their founding mission, but GambleAware and the exceptional team behind it have played a pivotal role in reframing gambling harms as a public health issue and helped to shape the foundations of the new gambling harms prevention and treatment system.”
