European Safer Gambling Week 2025 is scheduled to commence today, on November 17, and will run until November 23, uniting organizations across the entire regulated gambling sector in the UK and Ireland.
The annual initiative is a collaborative effort led by key industry bodies, including the European Betting and Gaming Association (EGBA), the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), BACTA, the Lotteries Council, and the Bingo Association.
The primary objective of the campaign is to stimulate vital conversations regarding responsible gambling practices and to broadly publicize the range of tools available to consumers for managing their activity.
Throughout the week, messaging dedicated to these themes will be prominently featured across digital platforms and within land-based venues, encompassing betting shops, bingo halls, and arcades.
Central to the initiative is the European Safer Gambling Week 2025 website, which serves as a crucial resource. It provides clear information on practical control measures, such as setting deposit limits and time restrictions, as well as accessing self-exclusion programs.
Furthermore, the platform offers reflective prompts designed to encourage individuals to proactively assess their personal gambling behaviour. The campaign also aims to highlight the superior customer protections and stringent standards enforced within the licensed sector, contrasting them with the risks associated with unregulated markets.
The emphasis on accessible tools is supported by compelling data from the previous year’s campaign. Figures indicate a significant year-on-year increase in consumer engagement, with over 1.5 million unique accounts utilizing a safer gambling tool in 2024, a substantial 22% increase from the prior period.
Notably, the use of deposit limits saw a 14% rise, with almost half of these limits being applied by users for the very first time. The 2024 campaign also achieved impressive reach, generating over 60 million social media impressions across major platforms including X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
This data underscores the growing efficacy of such awareness campaigns in promoting the use of responsible gambling resources. The industry partners remain committed to ensuring that the tools and protections available to consumers are both effective and widely promoted as the drive toward a fairer and safer environment continues.
