Dark Waters 2 Power Combo Demo Review

I’ll admit it — I didn’t expect a sequel to Dark Waters. The first one came and went like a ship in the fog. So when Just For The Win dropped Dark Waters 2 Power Combo, I wasn’t exactly holding my breath. But hey, curiosity wins again.

Right off the bat, it’s clear they didn’t mess with the theme too much. Still dark, still spooky, still pirates. You’ve got ghost ships, cursed compasses, and that moody soundtrack that sounds like Hans Zimmer on a rainy day. The visuals? Solid. Genuinely one of the nicer-looking pirate slots out there, even if we’ve seen this brooding vibe before.

The gameplay? 5×3 grid with 25 paylines. So far, so standard. But the whole thing revolves around this Power Combo mechanic, which sounds fancier than it is. Basically, you can trigger up to three bonus features at once during free spins — Wild Storm, Rolling Reels, and Win Boost. And yeah, when they actually line up, it can go off. The problem? Most of the time, they don’t. You’ll get one or two, maybe — and half the time it fizzles out before you even blink.

You’ve got three types of Free Spins: Crimson, Azure, and Emerald. Each one focuses on a different modifier, and they unlock as you collect scatters. I liked that part — at least you’re not stuck playing the same tired bonus over and over. But again, it’s a lot of effort for wins that rarely feel worth it.

Stats-wise, it sits at a medium-high volatility, with an RTP of 96.11% and max win of 5,000x. That’s not bad, but it’s also not going to turn heads. You can bet from €0.20 to €50, which covers most budgets.

The biggest gripe? It feels like Dark Waters 1.5, not a full-blown sequel. The Power Combo twist helps, but it’s still riding the coattails of its predecessor — which wasn’t exactly a genre-definer either.

If you liked the first one or just have a soft spot for gloomy pirate slots, this might float your boat. Otherwise, Dark Waters 2 Power Combo might just drift right past you.
