The Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) has officially confirmed a six-month extension for its provisional iGaming licenses, moving the deadline from June 24 to December 24, 2024.
This decision provides both B2C operators and B2B suppliers currently holding these “Green Seal” licenses with crucial additional time to complete the transition to the nation’s new, more stringent regulatory framework.
The extension is a direct response to the complexities involved in migrating to the new National Ordinance for Games of Chance (LOK), which came into effect late last year.
The LOK legislation represents a complete overhaul of Curaçao’s licensing system, replacing the long-standing master and sub-license model with a more direct and rigorously supervised regime.
This new framework imposes significantly higher standards for compliance, including enhanced anti-money laundering (AML) protocols, responsible gaming measures, and player dispute resolution.
According to the Curaçao Gaming Authority, the extension will allow license holders to demonstrate meaningful progress and ensure they are fully compliant with all new requirements.
An operator’s eligibility for a full, long-term license at the end of the provisional period will depend on the level of progress demonstrated.
This move highlights the regulator’s commitment to a thorough and orderly transition, balancing the implementation of international standards with the operational realities faced by licensees.
