It seems that the UK Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) are quite happy with Snapchat and their new ‘opt out’ option. More specifically, the new feature concerning gambling ads in the UK. This cooperation between Snapchat and BGC lasts since 2020. Especially after Snapchat meeting all regulations and requirements that are under the Industry Code For Socially Responsible advertising. The point of the new ‘opt out’ feature is to provide customers more control over in-app gambling advertisements. Hence, the news that BGC approves Snapchat ‘opt-out’ feature are already long overdue.
Being one of the leading social platforms, Snapchat seems like the right choice by the BGC to select as a new partner. Consequently, is no surprise that Snapchat officials are rather content with the new partnership status:
It has always been important to us that our community is able to influence the types of adverts they see on Snapchat. It’s fantastic to roll this change out and we’re grateful to have partners in the BGC. Who are doing vital work to ensure this industry continues to grow and evolve with consumers at the heart.
Ed Couchman – Snapchat UK General Manager
And it seems that the respect and satisfaction is mutual for both parties. Given that the BGC is a serious gambling regulator, known for only operating with serious top-tier brands. For that matter, the chief executive of BGC, Michael Dugher said the following:
I welcome this move by Snapchat and I would urge all social media and search platforms to provide the ability for users to opt out of viewing betting adverts. The regulated betting and gaming industry is determined to promote safer gambling. Unlike the unsafe and growing online black market, which has none of the safeguards which are commonplace among BGC members.
Michael Dugher – BGC Chief Executive
The Snapchat and BGC partnership that produced the ‘opt-out feature, stands as a reminder that when big names join forces, usually good things happen. Regardless of the company, we are good as long as a new partnership means new features to assist the player. Gamblers Connect is always gonna be on the side of innovation and player integrity.
