Football Legends Alan Shearer and Graeme Souness Back Initiative Offering £2,000 Grants and Major £10,000 Awards
Flutter has officially launched the latest edition of its flagship Cash4Clubs initiative, making £500,000 in vital funding available to grassroots sports clubs across the UK. Supported by football icons Alan Shearer and Graeme Souness, the program aims to help community clubs combat rising operational costs, attract new members, purchase equipment, and drive adult participation in fitness amidst growing economic pressures.
The application window, delivered in partnership with the charity Sported UK, officially reopens on October 1. For the current allocation, grants of £2,000 will be available for up to 225 successful clubs, alongside five major transformational awards of £10,000. Since its inception in 2008, Cash4Clubs has injected over £7 million into community sports across the UK and Ireland.
Ambassador and Stakeholder Perspectives
Former England striker Alan Shearer highlighted the tangible impact of the Flutter grants:
“Seeing what this grant meant to Newcastle Panthers puts it all into perspective. It’s helped so many members of our local community, both directly through the club and indirectly in the wider area through the positive message they share. I would encourage any neighbourhood club to apply for this grant.”
Graeme Souness added:
“Never underestimate the difference a small grant can make to the survival of a grassroots club or local community group. Earlier this year, I visited Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare FC to surprise them at training with the news that they’d received a Cash4Clubs grant. Since then, they’ve battled back from financial hardship and the threat of relegation.”
Jill Douglas MBE, sports presenter and Sported trustee, emphasized the importance of unrestricted funding:
“Cash4Clubs unrestricted funding allows clubs to use that money where they see fit. The program allows the people on the ground to make those vital decisions. Giving that autonomy is massively important.”
