The UK Gambling Commission has released a report regarding gambling figures in the United Kingdom for Q3 for both online and land-based gambling.

The data, comprised of licensed UK betting operators and in-person gaming enthusiasts, states that the online gambling gross gambling yield (GGY) increased by 21% to £1.54bn ($1.91bn) for Q3 when compared to the same period in 2023.

From here, the overall number of total spins and bets reached a massive 25.9 billion in Q3, noting an 8% increase when compared to 2023. Out of this number, slot gaming gross gambling yield increased by 15% to £709 million, with the number of spins reaching 23.9 billion, an increase of 9%.

Furthermore, the average length of slot sessions was 18 minutes, increasing by one minute, whereas the total number of online slot sessions longer than one hour reached 10.4 million, which is 6% more than Q3 in 2023.

Despite this upward trajectory, the longer average playtime for the overall player base accounts for only 6% of all gaming sessions, which, compared to Q3 in 2023, is 1% less. From here, the report states that the total number of active accounts reached 4.4. million per month, which is a 10% increase when compared to last year.

Additionally, GGY from real-event betting rose by 38% for Q3 2024 and reached £647 million, noting the highest number since Q2 in 2021. Yet, despite this, the number of active accounts decreased by 3%, and the total bets placed decreased by 7%

Lastly, the Gambling Commission report reveals that the GGY from land-based licensed betting operators in the UK reached £592 million, which is a 5% increase, despite the number of total spins and bets dropping by 4% to 3.1 billion.
