iGaming Ontario (iGO) has announced the appointment of Joseph Hillier as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, with his term set to begin on September 8th.

The organization, which manages the province’s competitive online gaming market, highlighted Hiller’s extensive experience as a key factor in his selection.

In a statement, iGaming Ontario declared that Hiller’s “depth in the Ontario igaming market combined with successful public and private sector careers” make him the “ideal president and CEO at this critical point in iGaming Ontario’s growth.”

His appointment is seen as a strategic move to secure leadership with a deep, intrinsic understanding of the province’s unique regulatory framework.

Hillier joins iGO from his most recent position as the Chief Strategy Officer and Corporate Secretary at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

During his tenure at the AGCO, he was responsible for delivering significant strategic and regulatory initiatives across all of the province’s regulated sectors, including alcohol, cannabis, horse racing, and gaming. This role provided him with a comprehensive overview of Ontario’s complex regulatory landscape.

Notably, Joseph Hillier was a foundational figure in the creation of the very market he will now lead. Prior to his work at the AGCO, he served as the Chief of Staff to Ontario Attorney General, the Hon. Doug Downey.

In this capacity, Hillier was instrumental in leading the development, launch, and implementation of Canada’s first private-sector-driven regulated iGaming market, which also included the establishment of iGaming Ontario itself.

His professional background is further strengthened by over a decade of experience working in the financial and legal services sectors, providing a well-rounded foundation for his new executive role.
