Sun International Expands African Footprint with Sunbet Online Casino Launch in Namibia

Omnichannel leisure giant Sun International has officially launched its Sunbet digital casino and sportsbook brand within the regulated market of Namibia.

The expansion marks the group’s third standalone African online jurisdiction, following a highly successful operational rollout into Botswana in 2024 alongside its primary retail and online market in South Africa.

Technical Platform and CRM Delivery

To ensure a scalable deployment, Sun International has extended its ongoing technical infrastructure agreement with Bede Gaming, a prominent player account management (PAM) provider owned by the Merkur Group. The Namibian web architecture utilizes Bede’s central platform layer integrated with advanced data analytics from CRM vendor Xtremepush, enabling localized, real-time user retention modeling.

The single-API framework provides Namibian players with immediate access to thousands of certified titles sourced from tier-one international content studios, including Evolution, Pariplay, and Habanero. Bede’s data analytics from its previous Botswana launch revealed an explosive 189% increase in player registrations, a 239% rise in active unique users, and a 370% spike in gross gaming revenue (GGR) since H2 2025.

This historical performance curve gave the Merkur Group strong confidence that Namibia’s similar player demographics will generate highly parallel yield metrics.

Leveraging Trusted Brand Goodwill

Simon Gregory, CEO of Sunbet, explained that tracking close regional trading corridors is central to their cross-border expansion matrix:

“Sun International is a well-respected and trusted brand in Africa, so Sunbet’s intention was always to leverage this good will by expanding into other African markets. We experienced significant success after our debut in Botswana, so rolling out Sunbet to the Namibian market was the natural next step for us, especially given that Namibia is one of South Africa’s strongest trading partners.”
