GiG Software Plc has powered the expansion of its long term partner PowerPlay Online Casino and Sportsbook into Alberta’s newly regulated iGaming market. This milestone marks the rollout of GiG’s fourth active brand in the province, reinforcing the B2B technology provider’s momentum across Canada.
Deploying scalable SaaS technology in Alberta
Following strong traction in Ontario after migrating to GiG’s tech stack in 2025, PowerPlay has secured its regulatory footprint in Alberta as a registered operator with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission. The launch leverages GiG’s full end-to-end technology ecosystem, integrating Player Account Management, the SportX sportsbook engine, the LogicX real-time rules engine, and the DataX AI-driven data engine.
This modular architecture allows PowerPlay to replicate its operational framework from Ontario without duplicating technical infrastructure or inflating operational overhead.
The deployment also marks the debut of GiG’s SportX sportsbook engine in Alberta, designed to deliver a deeply localized betting experience. SportX enables operators to tailor offerings, adjust odds dynamically, mitigate margin leakage, and embed regional compliance logic directly into the engine. With analysts projecting provincial gross gaming revenue to reach between €440m and €625m, GiG’s flexible SaaS model enables partners to capitalize immediately on new market openings.
Executive commentary
Commenting on the expansion, Richard Carter, CEO of GiG, stated:
“Expanding PowerPlay into Alberta so quickly following the market’s opening in July is another significant milestone in our Canadian growth strategy and highlights the scalability of our technology.”
Carter added:
“Having established a successful foundation together in Ontario, we are proud to power PowerPlay’s launch as our fourth active brand in this rapidly expanding province.”
Dean Serrao, Chief Executive Officer at PowerPlay, commented:
“Bringing PowerPlay to Alberta is an important step in our Canadian growth, building on what we have achieved in Ontario. Our partnership with GiG has been key to that expansion.”
