
Danes’ total gambling consumption fell by 7.1 percent in August 2026 compared to the same month last year, adjusted for GDP development, according to monthly statistics released by the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden). While the broader market contracted due to a steep reduction in betting activity, online casinos and land-based venues posted notable gains.
Sector-specific performance across the Danish market
The latest survey data from the Danish Gambling Authority highlights a diverging performance across various gaming verticals for August 2026. The most significant contraction occurred within the sports betting market, which plummeted by 42.7 percent compared to August of the previous year. In contrast, online casinos demonstrated resilient demand, expanding by 12.5 percent.
Physical gaming formats presented a mixed picture. Slot machines experienced a modest decrease of 2.6 percent. However, land-based bingo saw an increase of 6.4 percent, and land-based casinos grew by 8.7 percent.
