The Dutch Gaming Authority (Ksa) is providing enhanced direction regarding the requirements for verifying bank accounts and alternative payment methods through newly issued guidance. Following a comprehensive investigation into registration processes, the regulator found that gambling companies do not always carry out these checks adequately.
Addressing registration gaps and minor deposits
The Ksa initiated a closer examination of operator registration workflows after receiving concerning reports that minors, who are legally barred from participating in gambling, were able to deposit funds using their personal bank accounts.
Subsequent regulatory investigations confirmed that gambling providers frequently failed to verify bank accounts correctly. These oversights enabled individuals to gamble using youth accounts or successfully link a minor’s bank account to an adult participant’s profile.
To close these compliance gaps, the Ksa’s new guidance outlines strict procedural requirements for operators. The framework establishes clear instructions on checking first names during payment account verification, utilizing business accounts, and handling alternative payment methods.
By clarifying these standards, the regulator aims to eliminate loopholes that compromise age verification and player protection protocols.
