A tennis player on court, illustrating the focus of the KSA's latest enforcement action against operators ZEbetting and Betca for offering banned betting markets.

The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has issued formal warnings to online betting operators ZEbetting and Betca for offering prohibited betting markets on tennis matches.

The regulator identified that both providers had recently offered wagers on outcomes such as winning or losing a specific set.

These types of markets are explicitly banned under Dutch gambling legislation due to an increased perceived risk of match-fixing and manipulation.

The law forbids betting on events that are negative in nature or easily manipulated, with regulators deeming individual elements within a match, such as sets in tennis, more susceptible to corruption than full match outcomes.

In its official statement on the matter, the KSA confirmed that both ZEbetting and Betca have since rectified the violation. The operators have also implemented new measures to prevent a recurrence of the issue.

The regulator used the opportunity to stress that all licensed providers must remain vigilant and proactively monitor their offerings to ensure compliance. If a prohibited market is offered by accident, the provider is obligated to report the incident to the KSA immediately.

This enforcement action is part of a broader increase in regulatory activity by the KSA. The authority recently imposed conditional weekly fines of €75,000 on three companies for promoting unlicensed gambling.

It has also reported high levels of compliance following the full implementation of its ban on gambling-related sports sponsorships.

In related news, this is not the first time Betca is facing consequences for not complying with Dutch regulations, as the company was recently ordered to remove a gambling ad from a mobile game after another KSA intervention.
