Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, has issued fines to Giltnor Services and Roar Vegas for failing to appropriately respond to players displaying potentially risky gambling behaviour.
After an extensive audit, the Spelinspektionen found that the two operators didn’t take the necessary measures to assist players who displayed potential gambling addictions, which is why it issued the following administrative fines:
- Giltnor Services – SEK 28 million ($2.79 million)
- Roar Vegas – SEK 8 million ($800,000)
Glitnor Services received a warning along with a fine of SEK 28 million ($2.79 million) after the Spelinspektionen audit revealed serious failures in its customer care.
Opearting via luckycasino.com, out of twelve customers of Giltnor examined by the authority, ten were neglected despite displaying signs of excessive gambling.
Out of these ten, three individuals aged 18-24, which is considered a vulnerable demographic, were found to have engaged in extreme gambling behaviors.
- One customer placed bets every hour for 23 consecutive days.
- Another player placed 3,200 bets within five and a half hours.
- A third customer lost 24% of their annual income in just three days.
Despite Glitnor’s alleged attempts to reach out to these players, Spelinspektionen said that these efforts were ineffective and insufficient.
Moreover, the Swedish authority emphasized that the company was obliged to take stronger actions to help its players.
Right after the fine, Glitnor Services has introduced significant changes to customer care, including improved follow-up measures.
Roar Vegas, which operates leovegas.com, was also fined, as the Spelinspektionen issued a SEK 8 million ($800,000) penalty also in relation to failure to protect its players.
More specifically, the audit found that three of twelve reviewed players exhibited problematic gambling behaviour that was not properly addressed.
- One customer was logged in for up to 12 hours daily.
- Another played for 16 hours in a single session.
- Multiple individuals lost 80% of their deposited funds almost immediately.
Although Roar Vegas did actually impose deposit limits, the Spelinspektionen criticized the company for not doing enough to implement effective intervention measures.
These actions highlight the commitment of the Spelinspektionen to ensuring responsible gambling practices and protecting vulnerable players in Sweden’s regulated gambling market.
