In a historic development transforming the interactive sports entertainment landscape of the Middle East, Play971 has officially rolled out its dedicated football wagering platform to consumers residing within the United Arab Emirates.

The product rollout complements the brand’s pioneering iGaming suite, which originally went live late last year to establish the brand as the UAE’s first legally licensed digital sports betting and interactive casino operator.
Integrating Locally Rooted Sportsbook Architecture
Play971’s digital platform is operated directly by Coin Technology Projects LLC, a specialized subsidiary forming a core part of the prominent Abu Dhabi-based Momentum Group, the corporate apparatus behind the execution of The UAE Lottery.
The new sportsbook app went live via a domestically licensed platform architecture, providing localized international residents aged 21 and older with legal access to international sporting fixtures, major football match cards, and marquee tournament brackets through its dedicated Play971.ae domain.
While the digital client operates seamlessly across all seven emirates, company compliance maps indicate that advanced geo-blocking filters could be programmatically deployed in future cycles to restrict or customize access within specific regions depending on changing localized administrative preferences.
Beyond distributing standard international football events, the sportsbook engine introduces targeted, regionally focused betting markets covering local football leagues and traditional UAE horse racing events. Concurrently, the platform delivers a robust live-dealer casino suite and classic table lobbies, streamed live from a state-of-the-art broadcast studio located in Abu Dhabi under active licensing from the federal regulator, the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA).
The UAE’s regulated interactive gaming sector has experienced high expansion velocity over the past 12 months, with web3 and gaming suppliers securing active permissions. In October, crypto-betting pioneer Yolo Group successfully secured two separate gaming-related vendor certifications from the GCGRA to distribute its content to local operators.
This digital growth runs parallel to massive land-based developments, where global operator Wynn Resorts continues construction on its $5.1 billion Wynn Al Marjan Island integrated resort. Although on-site civil works encountered a brief precautionary suspension on February 28 following localized regional military developments, the premium mega-resort property remains completely on track for a successful 2027 international launch.
Delivering a Sustainable, Fan First Experience
Philippa Bowland, Commercial Director for iGaming at Play971, stated that the front-end user experience was crafted from the ground up to add a safe, highly collaborative layer to major sports events:
“For the first time, a locally rooted platform like Play971 adds a new layer to the sports experience – making it possible for fans to play sustainably, rally behind their teams and enjoy major football moments together.”
