Manchester City Chief Executive Ferran Soriano has indicated that the club’s ongoing legal battle with the Premier League could take years to fully resolve. Speaking at a private meeting of the European Football Clubs’ executive board in Copenhagen, Soriano addressed fellow club chiefs regarding the high-profile case, emphasizing the prolonged nature of the proceedings.
The developments follow reports that the majority of the financial fair play charges brought against Manchester City in February 2023 have been found proven. With the legal process now shifting toward an appeal phase and a separate upcoming process to determine potential sanctions, Soriano highlighted that eight years have already passed since initial allegations of misconduct were raised. Sources indicate that club leadership remains fully determined to fight the case.
Club Leadership Maintains Strict Stance on Innocence
Neither the Premier League nor Manchester City have denied reports indicating the club was found guilty of the majority of the charges. However, club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak released a defiant statement, maintaining confidence in the club’s position:
“The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began.”
A club spokesperson reiterated that proceedings remain ongoing, subject to strict confidentiality, and aligned with Manchester City’s initial February 2023 response. At the time, the club expressed surprise at the alleged breaches given extensive prior cooperation, welcoming an independent commission review to evaluate its body of evidence.
