New Sector-Specific Framework Provides Voluntary Guidelines for Responsible AI Deployment Across Gaming Operations
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), in partnership with the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), has officially introduced the AI Gaming Charter. Developed to promote the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence within the gaming sector, the framework was unveiled during an inaugural event convening industry stakeholders, public sector representatives, and technology leaders.
Designed as a voluntary, principles-based framework, the Charter complements existing legal standards such as the EU AI Act by delivering practical, tailored guidance for gaming organizations. It addresses the growing integration of AI in critical areas such as player protection, fraud detection, customer interactions, and operational decision-making, helping companies embed robust governance, accountability, and human oversight into their systems.
Executive Perspectives
Charles Mizzi, CEO of the MGA, stated:
“The AI Gaming Charter reflects a shared commitment between regulators, industry and technology experts to promote the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence. Our role as a regulator is not to stand in the way of innovation, but to help create the certainty and confidence needed for innovation to flourish responsibly.”
Kenneth Brincat, CEO of the MDIA, added:
“Trust is fundamental to the responsible adoption of AI. As its use becomes increasingly embedded across the gaming sector, organisations need practical ways to understand where AI is being used, manage the associated risks and ensure that accountability and human oversight remain firmly in place. The AI Gaming Charter translates these principles into practical, sector-specific guidance, bringing together MDIA’s expertise in AI governance and the MGA’s deep understanding of the gaming sector.”
