New analysis explores the growing appeal of crash games, live game shows and personalised casino lobbies

Online-Casinos.com has published new analysis examining how player expectations around online casino game libraries are evolving, with variety, entertainment value and easier content discovery becoming increasingly important alongside traditional slots.

According to gambling industry expert Heath Chesters from Online-Casinos.com, slots remain by far the most popular gaming category, but players increasingly expect casinos to provide alternative formats alongside them.

Crash and instant-win games are attracting growing attention, while improvements in the production quality of live game shows are giving players more entertainment-led ways to play.

“I don’t think we’re seeing players move away from slots necessarily. They’re still by far the most popular gaming niche at online casinos,” said Chesters. “What I’m seeing instead is players expecting more variety alongside slots in casino lobbies.”

Simplicity Drives Crash Game Growth

Chesters believes the growing popularity of crash games can largely be explained by their simplicity and entertainment value.

Rounds are typically quick and easy to understand while still giving players decisions to make, such as whether to cash out or continue. Their straightforward format also translates naturally to mobile devices.

Live game shows are developing differently. Improved studios, visuals and more professional hosts have increasingly blurred the line between traditional casino gaming and entertainment programming.

“They actually feel closer to entertainment shows, but with direct player participation,” Chesters explained. “Both categories give players alternative ways to play compared to more traditional casino games, which is a big part of their appeal.”

More Games Doesn’t Necessarily Mean a Better Casino

The analysis also challenges the idea that the size of a casino library is the best measure of its quality.

When reviewing an operator, Chesters looks beyond the total number of titles and instead considers the quality, depth and variety available.

A strong library should include established game developers alongside smaller and emerging studios, while providing enough variety for different types of players.

How those games are presented is equally important. Clean navigation, useful filters and effective search functionality can significantly influence how easily players discover content.

“Does the site make it easy for different player types to find their niche? That’s a question I ask myself when reviewing online casinos,” said Chesters.

He also argues that casino reviews should be treated as an ongoing process, allowing reviewers to assess how regularly operators update and improve their libraries rather than evaluating them only once.

Exclusive and Branded Games Still Need to Deliver

Exclusive games can also help operators differentiate themselves in increasingly similar casino lobbies.

Chesters believes exclusivity has genuine value alongside its obvious marketing benefits, particularly when a title gives players access to something they cannot find elsewhere.

Recognisable brands and mechanics can have a similar effect, with established slot series such as Big Bass, mechanics such as Megaways and entertainment brands such as Deal or No Deal helping generate initial interest.

However, branding alone is unlikely to create lasting engagement.

“Exclusivity and branding can create interest, but gameplay is what gives those titles their staying power,” Chesters said.

Personalisation and Gamification Set to Grow

Looking ahead, Chesters expects personalisation to become increasingly sophisticated as casinos use player behaviour to recommend games and surface content that better matches individual preferences.

Gamification is another area expected to expand, with daily rewards, missions and progression systems already proven engagement tools elsewhere in gaming.

Both developments ultimately serve the same objective: helping players discover content that is more relevant to them.

“We’re already seeing casinos use player behaviour to recommend games and surface content, matching individual preferences,” Chesters concluded. “I expect that to become much more sophisticated over time.”
