
Public Health Expert to Lead Consumer Protection, Education, Research, and Communications
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has announced the appointment of Sarah Woods as its new Director of Consumer Protection, Education and Awareness, Research and Communications. In her new role, Woods will oversee key strategic areas, including public education and awareness initiatives, research programs, communications, and the administration of the Social Impact Fund.
Extensive Public Health Background
Woods brings 15 years of professional experience in public health policy to the regulatory body, specializing in areas such as mental health, suicide prevention, and tobacco control. Prior to joining the GRAI, she served as the lead for strategy implementation, stakeholder engagement, and education at the Health Service Executive (HSE).
During her tenure there, she managed a team dedicated to advancing Ireland’s national suicide prevention framework and was seconded to the Department of Health to spearhead the development of a comprehensive new 10-year suicide and self-harm reduction strategy for the country.
Academically, Woods holds both a BA International and an MSc in European Economics from University College Dublin. Additionally, she has earned postgraduate qualifications spanning public relations, strategic marketing, and leadership within the health sector.
