Top UK bookmaker Betfred has announced the appointment of industry veteran Aidan Barry as its new Trading Director, effective immediately.
In his new role, Barry will be based at Betfred’s headquarters in Warrington, where he will lead the company’s entire trading operations.
His responsibilities will include overseeing all odds compilation, risk management strategies, and event coverage across the sportsbook. A key part of his remit will also be to spearhead technological developments aimed at enhancing operational efficiency within the trading department.
Barry brings two decades of high-level experience in the online betting and gaming industry to the position. He has held a series of senior leadership roles at some of the sector’s most prominent companies, including Fortuna Entertainment Group, Paddy Power Betfair, Matchbook, and PokerStars.
His extensive expertise covers a wide range of functions, including trading, risk management, commercial strategy, product development, operations, and business development. Barry also holds an MSc in Business (Leadership and Management Practice) from the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.
This appointment is a key part of Betfred’s broader growth strategy as it looks to expand its presence across both retail and digital betting markets.
The move follows a series of significant leadership changes at the company in recent years. In April 2021, Joanne Whittaker returned to Betfred as CEO, succeeding founder Fred Done who became Chairman. More recently, in 2023, the company appointed Nick Cockerill as its Chief Product Officer.
Upon his appointment, Barry stated he was “delighted to have joined Betfred” and that it was a “hugely exciting time to join the business,” adding that he was looking forward to working with the leadership team and talented staff.
